Stetsonia Coryne Cactus. Baseball Bat Cactus.
The Stetsonia Coryne Cactus is an impressive cactus famous for its long, sharp spines. A large columnar variety of cacti, the short stout trunk quickly forms many upright branches which then branch again forming a broad head. This perennial evergreen succulent can reach heights of 10m in it’s native habitat. The stems are well defined, olive green when mature but purplish blue-green in colour when new and have 8-9 ribs with 6-9 straight sturdy and very sharp spines of unequal length up to 10cm long. These are white to begin with but gradually become black with age. Also known as the Toothpick Cactus because of the nature of the spines.

Large white flowers tinted pink are funnel shaped opening at night and remaining open until mid morning the next day. These are followed by smooth skinned edible fruit having a lemony flavour. One of the few cactus varieties where the rind is edible raw.
