    Common Name: Glaucous Barrel Cactus. Blue Barrel Cactus.

    Origin: Eastern Central Mexico.

    Hardiness: Frost tender. Keep above freezing.

    Growth Characteristics: Very showy barrel Cactus bluish-green in colour. 11-15 acute ribs armed with sharp, straight radial spines light yellow in colour. Central spines may be absent. Long lasting lemony-yellow coloured flowers 3-4cm in diameter appear when barrels are mature. White fruit. Slow growing.

    Sun: Full sun.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water around every 7 days in growing season. Needs a little more water than some varieties of cacti. Keep completely dry in winter.

    Ferrocactus Glaucescens Cactus. Glaucous Barrel Cactus.
    The Ferrocactus Glaucescens is a very attractive Cactus a striking bluish-green in colour. Slow growing and medium sized with barrels up to 50cm in diameter, it can be solitary or as the plant ages multiple new heads can be produced at the base forming a large mound. 11-15 prominent acute ribs are quite fiercely armed with 6-7 long straight light yellow radial spines up to 4cm long. Central spines may not be present but are very similar to the radials if they are. Lemon coloured funnel shaped flowers are about 3-4cm in diameter lasting for quite a time, followed by white coloured fruit.
