    Latin Name: Euphorbia Horrida.

    Common Name: African Milk Barrel. African Milk Bush.

    Origin: South Africa.

    Hardiness: Hardy down to -4 degrees, lower if roots are dry.

    Growth Characteristics:  Very variable succulent shrub. Tight clumps of upright cylindrical stems heavily ridged with 10-20 ribs blue-grey to grey-green in colour. Can be twisted. Rows of fierce red-purple to brown spines, also clustered on the crowns. Very small green and yellow flowers. Easy to grow. Slow growing. Sap is toxic if ingested.

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water more in summer and during growing period. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter.

    Feeding: Feed with half strength balanced liquid feed at the beginning of the growing season.

    The Euphorbia Horrida is a shrubby variety of succulent resembling a cactus which can often be quite variable. Thick upright cylindrical stems which can be twisted are blue-grey to blue-green in colour heavily ridged with between 10-20 ribs. Rows of red-purple or brown spines are up to 4cm long with numerous amounts clustered on the crowns. When mature this beautiful succulent forms tight irregular clumps. Green and yellow
