    Cyphophoenix Elegans. Elegant Kentia Palm.

The Cyphophoenix Elegans is a very attractive palm only found in one area of New Caledonia making it quite rare. Growing up to around 12m in habitat its thin solitary trunk is ringed beautifully with prominent leaf scars. Above the olive green crownshaft which is covered in a greyish tormentum is a crown of 7-10 upright leaves, beautifully arched towards the tip and up to 2m long. The leaflets themselves are stiff and leathery being deep yellow-green on both sides, growing at an angle from the rachis giving the leaf a ‘V’ shape. This very tropical and elegant looking palm is very hard to find in cultivation and is a great collectors palm.
Better grown in a warm conservatory or atrium as it is prefers to be kept frost free.
