Xanthorrhoea Preissii Grass Tree.Boro ‘Black Boy’.
The Xanthorrhoea Preissii is a dramatic and spectacular species of grass tree native to Southwest Australia. The stout trunk is made up of a mass of old leaf bases held together by a natural resin and the centre is fibrous. During bushfires, the intense heat melts this resin and it oozes out and solidifies. Sometimes Nicknamed ‘Black Boy’ the thickened trunks turn black as a result of bush fires. A dense crown of thin but stiff grass-like leaves radiate from the top the trunk extending up to 3ft long and arching over it.
Slow growing, but extremely long lived, a tree with a 1m trunk will probably be around 100 years old.

Small white/cream star shaped honey scented flowers are produced on spectacular woody stalks which can reach up to 10ft tall.
This is a exceptionally beautiful and imposing plant which grow well in containers requiring little water and maintenance.
