    Phoenix Loureiroi. Mountain Date Palm
The Phoenix Loureiroi or Mountain Date Palm is a very elegant but slow growing palm. Can be solitary or clustering with the trunks usually covered in dark brown fibre and the remains of leafbases. The crown consists of long elegantly arching pinnate leaves up to 6ft long, dark green in colour with closely set narrow spiny leaflets growing on slightly different planes giving a plumose effect. Highly variable related to its geographical habitatat. More sun and it tends to be shorter in height with the leaflets bluer in colour and fatter in width. In partially shaded forests it is usually taller with pure green leaflets more widely spaced and less stiff.

Suited to growing in containers outside in summer, but winter protection is necessary.
