Oreocereus Trollii Cactus. Old Man Of The Mountain Cactus.
The Oreocereus Trollii Cactus is a very decorative variety of cacti but can be quite variable. A shrubby columnar cactus, which given time will branch at the base, it is characterized by having a dense covering of fine ‘white hair’, which acts as a woolly coat when growing in its native habitat at high altitudes. Cylindrical light green stems have 15-25 closely set ribs with 5-9 stout central spines, yellow/orange or orange/red in colour gently curving, up to 5cm in length, long enough to poke through the wool. The 10-15 radial spines have evolved to provide the dense enveloping ‘wool’.

When mature enough plants will produce pink-violet red coloured flowers during Summer.
