    Latin Name: Orecereus Leucotrichus.

    Common Name: Old Man Of The Andes Cactus.

    Origin: Northern Chile, South Peru.

    Hardiness: Down to -5 for short periods if very dry, but frost is better avoided.

    Growth Characteristics: Very variable evergreen columnar Cactus densley covered in silky white-black hairs. Cylindrical stems have around 10-15 rounded ribs. Central spines are stout yellowish-maroon-orange in colour 2-8cm long, radial spines are 15mm long. Funnel shaped flowers, red and purple. Smallish fruit. Easy to grow.

    Sun: Full sun.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water more in summer and during growing period. Allow to dry completely between waterings. Keep dry in winter.

    Feed: Feed half strength fertilizer at the beginningof the growing season.

    The Oreocereus Leucotrichus Cactus is a very decorative variety of cacti but can be a very variable species. A shrubby columnar cactus characterized by having a dense covering of fine silky white-black hairs, denser on younger stems, which acts as a woolly coat when growing in its native habitat at high altitudes. Cylindrical green to grey-green stems have 10-15 closely set smooth ribs. 1-4 stout central spines, yellowish to maroon to orange in colour are gently curved and are 2-8cm in length whereas the radial spines are around 15mm long.
