Orbea Variegata. Formerly known as Stapelia Variegata.

The Orbea Variegata is a fascinating succulent plant forming clumps or 4-angled grey-green noduled stems which can grow either erect or along the ground. In full sun and during the winter months these can turn a mottled red. The flowers are spectacular,  up to 8cm in diameter and are freely produced from late summer into late Autumn. Star shaped they are an off white-yellow colour attractively patterned with maroon blotches which can be in rows or scattered. A yellow central disc is present in the centre also speckled with dark spots. The clour and pattenation can be quite variable. The flower also gives off quite a sickly sweet scent, its way of arracting insects ensuring pollination, but it is not overpowering even close up. Has gained the RHS Award For Garden Merit.

Very easy to keep, great for growing in pots needing minimal maintenance
