Common Name: Sour Prickly Pear. Paddle Cactus. Nopal Cactus

Origin: Mexico.

Hardiness: Hardy down to -3 degrees or lower if kept dry.

Growth Characteristics: Very easy to grow.  Tree-like shrubby cactus. Blue-green, flat paddle shaped pads. 1-2 spines come from each areole which are widely spaced across the pads. Long lasting yellow flowers followed by red-purple edible fruit. Require little maintenance.

Exposure: Exposed/sheltered.

Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.

Moisture: Water during growing season. Keep dry in winter.

Feeding: Feed during summer with a balanced liquid cactus fertilizer.
