    Latin Name: Opuntia Leucotricha

    Common Name: Aaron’s Beard Prickly Pear, Aborescent Prickly Pear, Semaphore Cactus.

    Origin: Central Mexico.

    Hardiness: Hardy down to -7 if keep dry.

    Growth Characteristics:  Shrubby cactus forming clumps. Can reach 3-5m tall. Grey-green flattened pads. Closely set areoles with yellow glochids and white flexible spines up to 3cm long. Deep yellow flowers with white stamens and red stigma, 4-8cm in diameter. Edible fruit. Require little maintenance

    Sun: Full sun/partial shade.

    Exposure: Exposed/sheltered.

    Soil: Well drained soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water during growing season. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter.

    Opuntia Leucotricha Cacti.
    The Opuntia Leucotricha Cacti is a shrubby, tree-like variety of cacti with greyish-green flattened pads. Perfect for providing a dramatic accent to your garden design as it can reach between 3-5m high. Small areoles are numerous and set closely together filled with yellow glochids and flexible white spines up to 3cm long. The trunk and the older joints are covered with  long white bristles.

    Flowers ususlly 4-8cm in diameter are a deep yellow colour with white stamens and a deep red stigma with green lobes and are followed by whitish-yellow or red coloured edible fruits.

    Very easy to keep, great for growing in pots, needs minimal maintenance.
