    Origin: Central Mexico.

    Growth Characteristics: Very showy clump forming Cactus. White wool and bristles in axils. No central spines. 4-7 radial spines between 2-7cm long. Grows up to 1m wide. Bell shaped purplish-pink to deep red coloured flowers up to 1-1.5cm in diameter. Edible fruit.

    Sun: Bright light/Full sun.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty.

    Moisture: Water regularly in summer but do not over-water. Dry in winter.

    Mammillaria Compressa Cactus. Mother Of Hundreds Cactus.
    The Mammillaria Compressa Cactus is a one of the largest Mammillaria and is relatively fast growing, being solitary when young but easily forming clumps up to 1m wide. Commonly called the Mother Of Hundreds the bluish grey-green stems have white wool and bristles in the axils with 4-6 milky-white radial spines between 2-7cm long. No central spines are present.

    Even when young this very pretty cactus flowers abundantly with purplish-pink  to dark red bell shaped flowers appearing in a ring around the crown in winter through to early spring. These are followed by small red coloured edible fruit. This really is a striking cactus and perfect for Cacti enthusiasts.
