    Hyophorbe Verschafeltii. Spindle Palm

The Hyophorbe Verschafeltii is a very unique and architectural looking palm. A solitary palm the trunk is a creamy colour, turning grey as it matures and overtime it starts to swell in the middle similar to the shape of a spindle, hence it’s common name of the Spindle Palm. The crown is usually made up of 6 long, slightly arched pinnate leaves which are held quite erect. Leaflets are bright green- bright yellow and are arranged producing a narrow ‘V’ shape in cross section. Classed as critically endangered in the wild, it is established in cultivation. This ornamental palm is slow growing and makes a great specimen for containers as an indoor palm given enough light. Can be grown on a patio or terrace through summer and brought inside through winter
