Latin Name: Echinocactus Grusonii.

Common Name: Golden Barrel Cactus, Golden Ball Cactus,Mother-in-Law’s Cushion.

Origin: Central Eastern Mexico.

Hardiness: Tolerate light frost .

Growth Characteristics: Very showy roughly spherical Cactus.   Pronounced ribs in mature plants strong spines along strong ribs. Small bell shaped yellow flowers appear in summer around the crown when mature. Slow growing.

Sun: Full sun.

Exposure: Sheltered.

Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty.

Moisture: Water around every 14 days. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter.

    Echinocactus Grusonii Cacti.
    The Echinocactus Grusonii is commonly called the Golden Barrel Cactus. Roughly spherical  it has between 35 and 40 pronounced ribs when mature with strong sharp spines which can be straight or slightly curved in various shades of yellow and occasionally white. Small bell shaped yellow flowers appear in summer around the crown on mature plants.

    These Cacti are a critically endangered species in the wild and grow in volcanic rock. Very easy to grow these showy Cacti are great for a contemporary garden.
