    Latin Name: Disocactus Flagelliformis.

    Common Name: Rat’s Tail Cactus. Whip Cactus.

    Origin: Mexico, South America.

    Hardiness: Better kept above 5 degrees.

    Growth Characteristics:  Hanging cactus. Evergreen. Long rope-like stems variable in length which branch at the base. Large crimson pink tubular flowers. Epiphytic or lithophytic plants. Require little maintenance. Long lived.

    Sun: Partial sun. Bright filtered light.

    Exposure: Indoor Houseplant. Can be moved outside into filtered light (not direct sunshine) through summer.

    Soil: Well drained soil.

    Moisture: Water during growing season. Allow to dry between waterings. When top 0.5 inch of soil is dry then water. Needs a little more water than regular cacti. Can mist leaves to provide a little humidity.

    Feeding: half strength balanced liquid fertiliser every month through growing season.

    Disocactus Flagelliformis. Hanging Cactus.
    The Disocactus Flagelliformis Cactus has long succulent pendent green stems which branch at the base and have very fine reddish brown to reddish yellow spines along their length. Very attractive these slender rope-like stems cascade down giving a waterfall effect.

    Very free flowering, many attractive tubular flowers, crimson pink in colour and up to 3 inches long appear in mid to late spring lasting for a few days. These cactus are perfect for providing a dramatic accent to your house or office.

    These types of cacti are Epiphytic, meaning in habitat they grow in trees or Lithophytic living on rocks, getting their nutrients from the air or dead leaves and other debris collected in the cracks or crevasses.

    Very easy to keep needing minimal maintenance.
